Biography:

I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Philosophy. My current research explores how our dominant theories, questions, methods, measurements, systems, and policies – in short, our ways of knowing – can exclude or obscure parts of the world, and how we should respond to the resulting gaps and disappearances. I ask these questions primarily in the spaces of healthcare and public health, and with a focus on queer and disabled communities.
Previously, I completed a PhD with the Department of Philosophy and the Joint Centre for Bioethics at the University of Toronto. My thesis examined how narrative approaches to healthcare can obscure structures and practices of unjust silencing, and how silences can be simultaneously used as strategies for communication and resistance.
Beyond these focuses, I am interested in public health research ethics; the ethics and epistemology of emerging technologies; disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to bioethics pedagogy; queer and disabled philosophy; and even what we can learn from the science of paper folding and crumpling.
