Max is a PhD student in the department who is primarily interested in 18th- and 19th-century Philosophy—especially Rousseau, Kant, Fichte, and Marx—as well as questions in philosophy of action pertaining to shared agency and collective action. In particular, Max is drawn to the ways in which these areas can serve as conceptual resources for our normative theorizing about large-scale social activities, such as democratic deliberation and market exchange, as well as smaller-scale social activities such as conversation and friendship.
