On September 14th, the Prindle Institute and the DePauw University philosophy department will host the Young Philosophers Lecture Series, in which four “young philosophers” (defined as scholars who received their PhD in philosophy in the last 6 years) will present their work.
This year, two of the four participants are alumni of the U of T Department of Philosophy. Dr. Diana Heney received her PhD in 2014 at U of T with her dissertation “Ethics & Experience: Toward a Pragmatist Metaethics”, supervised by University Professor Cheryl Misak. Diana is now an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at Fordham University in New York.
Dr. Kenneth Boyd also received his PhD in 2014 here, with his dissertation “Epistemically Responsible Action”, supervised by Professor Jennifer Nagel. Kenneth taught at Dalhousie University in Halifax for two years before returning to his hometown of Scarborough to teach at the UTSC Department of Philosophy.
Diana’s presentation at the Lecture Series is entitled “Birth, Death and the Inbetween”, while Kenneth’s is “How can I convince you that you should care about other people?” The other two participants will be Dr. Matthew Duncan, assistant professor at Rhode Island College, and Dr. Christian Tarsney, postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Groningen.
