Brookes Brown is an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at UTM and in the Graduate Department at St. George. Her research focuses on political and social philosophy. She writes about the ethics of market exchange and market structure, the nature of the state, and the responsibility of individuals to undertake civic actions like voting or complying with the law. She has additional interests more broadly in business ethics and philosophy of law.

Before coming to the University of Toronto, she was an assistant professor of philosophy and Director of the Program in Law, Liberty and Justice at Clemson University. Prior to holding that position, she was a postdoc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of North Carolina, and a DeOlazarra fellow in Political Philosophy, Law, and Policy at the University of Virginia.
