Hamish’s research is at the intersection of political philosophy and business ethics. He is particularly concerned with how the political justifications for economic institutions, such as “invisible hand” arguments, modify the moral responsibilities of economic actors, such as corporate managers. It is often suggested—and taught in business schools—that the structured adversarialism of the market suspends some of the ordinary requirements of morality; Hamish is interested in how far such arguments succeed.
Hamish has published (with Gillian Brock) on the moral responsibilities of tax professionals.
