Paolo Crivelli is a visiting professor from the University of Geneva. He studied Ancient Philosophy and Mathematical Logic at the University of Florence, where he obtained his master’s degree under the teachers Francesco Adorno (for Ancient Philosophy) and Ettore Casari (for Logic). He concentrated his research on Ancient Philosophy, keeping Mathematical Logic as a teaching interest practiced throughout his career. His MA thesis was on the problem of negation in Plato and Aristotle. Crivelli earned his PhD, on ancient Stoic logic, at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa.
His first appointment was at the University of Edinburgh (1992-2002) (Temporary Lecturer, then Lecturer, then Senior Lecturer), before moveing on to the position of Tutorial Fellow at New College, Oxford (2002-2011). Finally, he joined the University of Geneva, first as an associate professor, then professor. Dr. Crivelli retired in August 2024 (in conformity with Swiss law) and was elected to the position of honorary professor at the University of Geneva. He continues to teach one semester in Notre Dame (Indiana), as well as teaching at the University of Lugano.
