Panel: The Greater Picture — Philosophical Issues in Modern Physics

Friday February 8, 2019, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

What should we believe about dark matter and dark energy? Do the laws of physics lie? What is the role of conscious observers in our universe? Come join a panel of physics and philosophy professors who will discuss several surprisingly philosophical issues in physics such as these. Panelists include David Curtin (Physics), Michael Luke (Physics), and Michael Miller (Philosophy). Some food and drinks will be provided, and everyone is welcome, including undergraduates. After the event, those interested are welcome to join us at Trinity Commons on Augusta just south of College Street.

About the Organizers

This event is organized by upper-year undergraduate students in the joint specialist program in physics and philosophy — the only joint specialist program between physics and a humanity, and one of two between philosophy and a STEM discipline. The Greater Picture aims to showcase the program and to increase awareness of the mutual benefits that physics and philosophy can offer one another.
