On March 1, 2018, the department welcomed Tommie Shelby, the Caldwell Titcomb Professor of African and African American Studies and of Philosophy at Harvard University for the 2018 Roseman Lecture in Practical Ethics.
Shelby’s research interests include Africana philosophy, social and political philosophy, philosophy of race, and social theory. He spoke to a packed room of students, faculty, and friends on various aspects of the topic of reform/abolition of the prison system, under the title “Anti-Prison Theory: The Limits of Functional Critique”.
