As we celebrate and honour the graduating class of 2020 with the U of T Virtual Convocation 2020, a few words from our undergraduate chair and the department chair:
Congratulations, Class of 2020!
You—our graduating majors, specialists, and minors—have done us proud: above all through your commitment to philosophy during your undergraduate years, but also through your remarkable grace under fire these past few months. In the midst of a pandemic that upended everyone’s lives, you negotiated—with a mixture of patience, stoic resolve, and a sense of humour—the finale of your undergraduate careers. In the Department of Philosophy, we feel blessed to have such curious, thoughtful, and engaged students as you. While it fills us with sadness that we can’t assemble in person today to celebrate and honour you for your achievements, you (and the world) should know: We recognize you for the extraordinary and successful people you are, and we are immensely proud to welcome you into the ranks of U of T Philosophy alumni. We wish you all the best as you take the next steps in your lives and careers, and we do hope you’ll stay in touch. Remember, once a philosopher, always a philosopher. Well done, Class of 2020!
Peter King, Associate Chair, Undergraduate & Martin Pickavé, Chair
