The UTM Research Awards Committee has chosen Nilanjan Das as this year’s winner of the UTM Annual Research Prize in the Humanities. The committee recognized Das’s contributions to the fields of epistemology and Sanskrit philosophy.
Gurpreet Rattan, the Chair of Philosophy at UTM, says of Das’s success, “Professor Nilanjan Das is two philosophers in one: a leading scholar of Sanskrit and South Asian philosophy and an ace contemporary epistemologist. Either one of these Professor Dases would have been a strong candidate for a UTM Annual Research Award–but fused into one person, he was a juggernaut candidate.”
The UTM Research Awards were established in 2016 by the Office of the Vice-Principal and UTM’s Research Council to recognize outstanding contributions of early career researchers. Adjudicators award the honours on the basis of excellent performance in several key areas: high-quality research, clear communication of results, and exceptional teaching skills. Winners stand out because of their critical academic contributions to their chosen field, their outstanding reputation among peers, and the inspiration they provide to undergraduate and graduate students alike.
Nicole Novroski from the Department of Anthropology, Forensic Science Program, was selected for the research award in the science department, and Menaka Philips from the Department of Political Science was selected for the prize in the social sciences.
Congratulations!
