UTM Workshop on Indian Epistemology

Friday November 8, 2019, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm

Presented by the Centre for South Asian Civilizations at the University of Toronto Mississauga, this workshop convenes a group of scholars of analytic and Indian philosophy engaging contemporary problems in epistemology in light of debates occurring in premodern India. Our focus is Gangesa Upadhyaya (14th century CE), a philosopher who founded the “new reason” school of philosophy. His understudied work, The Philosopher’s Stone of Truth (Tattvacintamani) was hugely influential and engendered new modes of analysis and increased technical precision in scholarly discourse.

Nilanjan Das (University College London)

Jennifer Nagel (University of Toronto Mississauga)

Parimal Patil (Harvard University)

Stephen Phillips (University of Texas)

Anand Vaidya (San Jose State University)
