Presented by the Centre for South Asian Civilizations at the University of Toronto Mississauga, this workshop convenes a group of scholars of analytic and Indian philosophy engaging contemporary problems in epistemology in light of debates occurring in premodern India. Our focus is Gangesa Upadhyaya (14th century CE), a philosopher who founded the “new reason” school of philosophy. 2019 UNESCO World Philosophy Day

This years' UNESCO World Philosophy Day lecture speaker, Chike Jeffers, is an Associate Professor of Philosophy cross appointed with Canadian Studies and International Development Studies at Dalhousie University. His research focuses on Africana Philosophy, Philosophy of Race, Social and Political Philosophy, and Ethics. Talk Title What Counts as a Collective Gift? Culture and Value in Du Bois' The Gift of Black Folk. A reception will follow the talk.
