As many of us oscillate between “paralyzing fear, listless apathy and the peculiar febrile nervousness that is one of boredom’s most distressing modes” in the new realities created by the current COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Mark Kingwell suggests we take the opportunity for reflection. In an opinion piece published in the Globe and Mail on Saturday, April 4, 2020, he encourages us—if we are in a position to do so—to follow in the footsteps of previous philosophers of boredom to glean new insights from our present condition.
