Congratulations to Viacheslav Zahorodniuk, a former postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Philosophy working with Donald Ainslie. The editorial board of the Hume Studies journal recently selected him as the winner of the fourth-annual Hume Studies Essay Prize. Zahorodniuk has a current position as a Biruté Ciplijauskaité Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He began work on his winning article, “Painted Red: The Soviet Interpretations of Hume’s Epistemology,” during his time as a postdoc with us. The essay will be published in the journal’s November 2025 issue.

The Hume Studies Essay Prize competition is open to anyone 10 or fewer years away from having earned their PhD, as well as those currently enrolled in a doctoral program. All award-winning essays see publication in Hume Studies, and the authors receive USD $1,000. Submissions for the fifth annual prize are open until August 1, 2025.
