Heartfelt congratulations to our colleagues Jessica Gelber and Julia Nefsky who have been granted tenure. Starting Thursday, July 1, 2021, both will be at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure. We could not be happier for them.
About Jessica Gelber
Jessica Gelber joined the department (St. George and Graduate Department) in 2018 from the University of Pittsburgh, where she had worked as an assistant professor after completing her graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Her primary research centres on Classical Greek and Roman philosophy, with particular interests in foundational issues in ancient medicine and science. Her current projects focus on the relation between Aristotle’s conception of science and his metaphysics, and on questions about the nature of causation and explanation.
About Julia Nefsky
Julia Nefsky has been with the department (UTSC and Graduate Department) since 2012, after receiving her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests, which fall broadly into the field of moral philosophy, focus on understanding what an individual should do, and how she should think of her own reasons and responsibilities, in contexts of collective impact. In recent joint works with Sergio Tenenbaum, Nefsky explores a puzzle concerning future-directed decisions and autonomy.
