Need some reading material in philosophy over the break? Look no further. Besides the books we have been announcing over the past weeks, two more have been published in recent months by members of the department. Joseph Heath‘s The Machinery of Government: Public Administration and the Liberal State (Oxford University Press) offers the first book-length philosophical examination of the ethics of public administration. Taking a pragmatic approach to the functioning of democratic societies, the volume articulates a moral framework for those doing or interested in government work. In Fichte’s Moral Philosophy (Oxford University Press), Owen Ware presents a novel interpretation of Fichte’s work as an ethics of wholeness through a blend of intellectual history and a close reading of Fichte’s thought between 1794 and 1798. Congratulations to both authors on their publications.
