Logic Minor Program ERMIN1011

The new Logic Minor. Combine your courses with formal & technical content with philosophy courses!

The New Logic Minor – Only at UTM!

The Philosophy Department at UTM now offers a Logic Minor, a unique program available exclusively at the Mississauga campus. This minor is perfect for students interested in sharpening their reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills.

The program requires 4.0 credits, including at least 1.0 credit at the 300 or 400 level. Students take a mix of courses in formal logic, philosophical reasoning, and technical subjects from departments like Math, Computer Science, and Statistics.

Requirements include:

Core Requirements:

A. 1.0 credits from core logic courses such as PHL239H5, PHL245H5, or PHL246H5;

B. 1.0 credits from upper-year logic courses like PHL345H5, PHL346H5, PHL347H5, or PHL445H5 or PHL447H5;

Elective Requirements:

C. 0.5 credits from philosophy courses connected to logic but less technical: PHL103H5 or PHL233H5 or PHL258H5 or PHL325H5 or PHL327H5 or  PHL332H5 or PHL350H5 or PHL354H5 or PHL360H5 or PHL450H5;

D. 1.0 credits from CS/MAT/STA courses

E. 0.5 additional credits from any of the above categories

Alternate elective options for either PHL or CSC/MAT/STA courses, in requirements D and E, may be taken with the approval of the Department. Contact the Philosophy Academic Advisor for more information. Where courses exclude each other, at most one of them may be counted for credit toward philosophy program completion.

Keep in mind that no more than 1.0 credit from 100-level philosophy courses can count toward the minor. Be sure to plan ahead, especially for upper-level courses that may only run every other year. For the most up-to-date course offerings, consult Timetable Builder or speak with the department advisor.

Students opting for PHL245 from core requirement ‘A‘ are welcome to attend Logic Labs!
